We celebrated Christmas in our prekindergarten class by decorating gingerbread cookies, watching Franklin's Christmas, Decorating a Christmas Ornament and playing outside. Here is many pictures of all the fun we had together. While we were playing we noticed the gingerbread escaped so we also had to go on a gingerbread hunt.
The classroom is always lots of fun, but the best part of the day is certainly gym time. This is what we have been enjoying during gym in the past two weeks. - S.W.A.T team (Student Wellness Action Team) gets to set up an obstacle course called Mission Impossible. This is something all the children at East look forward to every year. Mission Impossible has got to be one of the funniest things for the kiddos to enjoy, and hopes are we will get another chance near the end of the year.
East Elementary Prekindergarten program is very lucky to be able to enjoy gym time everyday for 20-30 minutes. We believe that daily physical activity is very important and it also allows the children to just be kids in a large environment. In our preparation for Christmas, we painted boxes to be used as chimney for our Santa's workshop theme. I only got to snap one picture as it got very messy (but fun) and I joined in :)
Tuesday/Thursday kiddos will be painting a box in the coming weeks. We got some new toys in our class last week and they have proven to be a hit with the kiddos. The children now have access to iPads in the classroom to practice their letters, shapes, and numbers, (They all absolutely love the app called "My first alphabet phonics". The children will be allowed to play with the iPads during free play time for 3 minute turns. We will get more educational apps in the new year. Check out the new "Educational Apps" page to see new apps added monthly.
Penguin Popper are also a new hit in our class. If you squeeze the penguins belly the ball will pop out. These poppers are great for helping children gain strength in their hands and help with fine motor skills. (yes, it can get a little bit crazy) We had a very fun couple of days with all our Christmas fun. We wrote our letters to Santa and even walked to the mail box to deliver them. I have photo copied their letters and saved a copy for their memory book. If you are interested to see what you child put on their letter please let me know and I can send a copy home.
In the coming weeks, we are going to be very busy preparing for Christmas. We are making crafts, practicing songs and of course having lots of fun with all our friends. Last week we got to make muffins in the classroom. This was a really fun activity in our classroom and we certainly will be doing more cooking in the future. Having the opportunity to bake gives children the opportunity to learn basic life skills like hand washing, safety, confidence etc while also teaching them important math skills such as measurement and sequencing. It also fits into our senses unit with taste and works well with our book study. (If you give a moose a muffin)
I apologize that they were not chocolate chip muffins (apparently blueberries and chocolate chips look very similar on a muffin mix kit) |
Miss SmithI am very excited to be back at East this year. I will be teaching the PreK program in the mornings and Kindergarten in the afternoon. You can find me in Room 9. Archives
