You wouldn't believe how much fun it is to put our toys in paint. The pictures the kids created are so awesome!

I am pretty sure my Education Assistants think I am totally nuts but the children think it's lot of fun.
Look at the picture we made together :) During the last week, the school was participating in Jump Rope for Heart. While they had all the equipment out, we learned how to skip as well! Look how much fun we had!
The weather in January was certainly beautiful. We took advantage of some mild days by heading outside to play. Sledding is lots of fun, especially with all our friends.
For the past two weeks, we have had a lot of fun playing with the tunnels and slides in gym. We have also started to learn some new yoga moves. We are very fortunate to have access to the gym every day.
On Thursday, we had nice enough weather to head out into the school field to find the teddy bear that is sleeping in the woods. We have read many books in class that talk about hibernation and animals in the winter. We are learning about which animals hibernate and which animals don't. We are hoping the teddy bear comes to play when he wakes up in the spring. We will also be heading on next Wednesday on a hunt to find another teddy bear.
When the children arrive in the morning, they are responsible to get themselves ready for the day and work on the table top jobs that are set up in the classroom. I am so proud of how independent and responsible the children are becoming. We have a ton of new table top jobs in our classroom to keep the children engaged in fine motor skills, early numeracy and literacy. I am always looking for new ideas to keep a busy group of 13 kids entertained - who know it would be as easy as some Styrofoam chunks, golf tees and hammers. While children are hammering away, they are working on hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills and some fine carpentry skills. Every month, we add another activity to help the children with speech, adding to vocabulary or just teaching children new ways to play with toys. This month we are using a doctors/vet kit to learn new vocab words. I was pretty excited to see the children playing with these items during center time.
We celebrated Christmas in our prekindergarten class by decorating gingerbread cookies, watching Franklin's Christmas, Decorating a Christmas Ornament and playing outside. Here is many pictures of all the fun we had together. While we were playing we noticed the gingerbread escaped so we also had to go on a gingerbread hunt.
The classroom is always lots of fun, but the best part of the day is certainly gym time. This is what we have been enjoying during gym in the past two weeks. - S.W.A.T team (Student Wellness Action Team) gets to set up an obstacle course called Mission Impossible. This is something all the children at East look forward to every year. Mission Impossible has got to be one of the funniest things for the kiddos to enjoy, and hopes are we will get another chance near the end of the year.
East Elementary Prekindergarten program is very lucky to be able to enjoy gym time everyday for 20-30 minutes. We believe that daily physical activity is very important and it also allows the children to just be kids in a large environment. |
Miss SmithI am very excited to be back at East this year. I will be teaching the PreK program in the mornings and Kindergarten in the afternoon. You can find me in Room 9. Archives
